Up for sale is my 2013 Boxster vin WP0CA2A83DK112263 PDK.
I purchased the car as I had the convertible itch, and wanted a reliable (non bore-score engine) car I could enjoy 3 seasons out of the year. I commute 85 miles to work, and this gets 30-35mpg on the highway, yet was still fun to drive, had heated/cooled seats, and had the same interior / fit / finish as my 991 turbo and macan turbo. The car was purchased by a millionaire (literally) for his niece, and she drove the car until it was sold to me in 2022. Once a year, it would go to Porsche and whatever it needed, the uncle would pay for. In my tinkering, i’ve seen porsche OEM parts used (brake pads, rotors, etc.) and Michelin tires were on it when I purchased it, so know it was treated well by some mechanic. That being said, I could also tell it was owned by a young female driver too. It needed some TLC, and looks like it has had some paint re-work (that isn’t the finest), which I was ok with for my intended use, as the mechanics and bones were good. I was ok with a less than perfect exterior, knowing I was going to enjoy it on the highway and clean it up as best I could. I have other cars that are ‘near perfect’ and didn’t want that for the car’s intended purpose. In my years of ownership, it has always been reliable and treated me well, though I’ve also tried my best to keep up with preventative maintenance. I would drive this car 1000-2000 miles tomorrow if I had to, and wouldn’t think twice.
Upon purchasing it, I added the joyeauto integration to give the apple carplay upgrade, backup camera, dashcam, a rennline phone mount, and started cleaning the paint and interior up. Aftermarket carbon fiber was added, and I added an audison APBX-8as powered sub, and did a custom volume sub control knob in the ashtray. The sub sits behind the passenger seat, and I’d be happy to take it with me to the next car…though once you hear it you’ll definitely want it. The TPMS sensors were dead, so those were replaced, and I sanded, corrected, and painted the OEM wheels a more appealing dark gray. I picked up a heated alcantera gt4 steering wheel, the GPS adapter, a heated clock spring, and coded the car for the heated wheel, which is one of my most favorite parts of the car, next to the PSE exhaust. The Sport Chrono / sport plus button and PSE won’t show up on the car’s VIN, but are installed and work properly. Of all the cars i’ve owned, i’d say the 981 PSE exhaust is in my top 3 list by far. I added the black GT4 tail pipes to finish the look, and the car regularly has been polished and coated with cquartz UK. GT3 steering calibration and PTV was also done at this time, and a window switch was replaced.
Spark plugs and coil packs were replaced at 98k, front brakes were upgraded to the 330mm GTS rotor sizes, brake fluid was flushed and ATE SL6 was bled, and EBC yellow pads were done all the way around. This is my favorite street pad BTW, I run them on several cars for their strong bite, decent dusting, and an unproportional lack of squeal vs bite. The calipers were painted red, and the rear brake actuator was reset via PIWIS. At 101k, I did the Porsche FFL-3 Pdk fluid and Mobil1 Mobilubte PTX 75W-90 Gear Oil for preventative maintenance, as well as K&N air and cabin filters. The doors commonly delaminate so I glued them back down. I can’t remember if I only did the drivers side or both – they aren’t perfect, but they are better than they were. The headlights were ROUGH when I purchased the car, and I sanded and polished them multiple times, though I decided to try new lenses all together (which is a nightmare to do BTW). The old lenses were removed, new lenses were installed, and Butyl was used to seal them back up. The first time I did this, I would get a little condensation inside the new lens, so I re-did this with more butyl, which can be seen up close, but I have no more condensation build up in the headlights.
The car sits at 120k and just received another polish and coat of cquartz UK at 119, as well as new bosch wiper blades. I can’t deal with clunks, so I opted to replace the front end links and inner/outer tie rods (though only the drivers side has been installed, the passenger side I haven’t done yet). This fixed the clunk I was hearing, and the car was realigned. If there were more hours in the day, i’ll get to the passenger side, but since there is no clunk and winter is almost here, it may wait till spring.
The car has no check engine lights, warnings lights, TPMS lights, low fluid / etc. lights and drives as it should. The only thing I haven’t gotten to yet is to replace the convertible micro switch (which I have, winter project). Currently, the car faults when the top is opened / closed, but pressing the open/close button again will successfully open or close the top…it just doesn’t do it in one button sweep. I have the part to fix it, just haven’t gotten to it yet. There is some dye fading on the passenger side leather seat, by the seat belt buckle. I had the dye to do it, though I’ve been tinkering with dying everything black/red if I kept the car…so that’s also on the list. The black floormats are from my 991, and would like to keep them, so the tan ones would go with the car if it was sold today. The front bumper has some damage on the lower front passenger side, and the paint on it is…well i’d call it good from 5 feet…and looks like the lower plastic drivers side piece has been re-painted once before. The rear bumper has scuffs from where a young driver may have taken a corner too tight, though I haven’t tried to touch it up much.
Candidly, I do not know what a fair price would be. As a Porsche collector / rejuvenator, I’m constantly watching the market and options, and have never seen a 981 base w/ SC, PSE, and a heated wheel. I know i’ve got way too much into this little guy (over $40k) but also understand the market will dictate what it’s worth. There is a price out there that I’m sure I would let it go as is, and there’s probably a price out there that I would start pulling things off. (The wheel / airbag / heated combo was over $3k and I could replace with the less attractive OEM wheel and bag and sell it off, same w/ the sub, joyeauto, and PSE as I have a factory OEM exhaust as well)
